This zone includes the commercial port, cruise ships, etc.. It is a very electric zone and includes parts of the old historic center of Barcelona, the Palau Nacional (Museums) and the start of Montjuic Hill.

Castell de Montjuïc
This 18th-century castle stands on top of Montjuic Hill. The original structure was built in 1640 during the War of the Segadors and was expanded between 1751 and 1779 to form the present building, which has become a symbol of centralist repression and of the abolition of Catalan liberties. It was once a military prison, but now it's the Museu Militar (Military Museum). It's located at the end of the cable-car line where it protects the harbor with its show of arms.

CHURCH OF THE GUELL COLONY. This project started in 1898 and continued in stages until 1917. The vaults of the crypt are made with Catalan style brick (hyperbolic paraboloid) with multi-functional support columns and ribs . There is a great display of different geometrical structural solutions, some of which served as practice work for The Sagrada Familia. It is  brilliantly integrated with the landscape and only 15 kilometres away from the city centre.
Location. Santa Coloma de Cervello (12 kms. Outside Barcelona)

PALAU GUELL (GUELL PALACE). Built between 1886 and 1888 for the Guell family (Gaudi’s principal patrons). The Guell Palace is one of Gaudi’s greatest buildings. Beautifully restored and cared for it can be visited for a small fee (with a guide). With a lavish, elegant, and warm decoration, this building should be a tour de force for those interested in this man’s work. The main entrance has an intricate ironwork featuring the Catalan coat of arms. The basement was used as a stable and it was big enough to store carriages as well as keeping horses. Today the space is used for exhibitions, usually related to Gaudi’s work. This building is a must see building. I would stop in a couple hours before you plan take a tour and get a time to tour. The ceilings are amazing, so be sure to look up!

Like other designs by Meier, this museum has a white facade, these white surfaces are a trademark of his style. The museum's collection includes pieces by some of the finest Spanish and Catalonian artists, as well as Alexander Calder, Jean Dubuffet, Paul Klee, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg and many others.

Aquarium

This unique transparent building houses the city's aquarium and has become a major tourist attraction on the waterfront. The tanks hold the widest possible variety of marine life from all the world's seas, but the main attraction are the sharks.

IMAX Theater

One of those great big giant-screen shows that shows large format and 3D films. There are matinees, and late showings at weekends. A great thing about it is that it is located in one of the most characteristic places in Barcelona, on the Moll d'Espanya, a quay in Barcelona's old port surrounded by sailing ships and avenues lined with palm trees, restaurants and night spots.

Maremagnum

For some night life head to one of Barcelona's great nightclubs Maremagnum, located at the end of the Rambla, right on the sea and near most of the hostels. So if you're backpacking through, it's a must stop destination on your first night out.
Situated on the top floor of a shopping mall there are about half a dozen dance rooms separated by glass walls and each featuring a different type of music. So you can dance to hip-hope and then move onto the '80s without ever having to change clubs.

Another plus: there is no time to stop serving- here, the crowd doesn't even peak until around 2am, and you're likely to see the sun come up before you realize what time it is. There is no better nightclub than Maremagnum a club made of glass rooms on a rooftop to see the sun come up after a great night out.

Drassanes

The Reials Drassanes (Royal Dockyards) of Barcelona a Gothic building, built in the Middle Ages for ship building are located at the end of the Ramblas, to the right of the Plaza del Portal de la Pau.

The dockyards date back to 13th Century and are the biggest and most complete Medieval dockyards in the world. Today the huge, stone-vaulted buildings currently house a big exhibition hall and the Museu Marítim of Barcelona, which includes various collections of boats, paintings, figureheads and an interactive exhibition, "The Great Adventure of the Sea". Ther exhibit is about the dangers of the sea that's great for kids, the "Gran Aventura del Mar", in which you can take a virtual-reality trip in a
submarine or experience a storm.

Olympic Ring

The Anella Olímpica of Montjuïc was one of the four sites where the Olympic Games were held in 1992. It is t is located next to the Olympic Stadium which includes a series of sports facilities that can hold up to 17,000 people, and the Picornell swimming pools, which are currently open to the public.

The Olympic Stadium was renovated in 1992 and displays the Galeria Olímpica, a permanent exhibition and an information center about the Olympic Games and the sites where they were held.

Pueblo Español

The Pueblo Español is a reconstruction of about 100 of the monuments and buildings that are most renowned in Spain. This complex was built between 1965 and 1967 and allows the visitor to experience all of Spain while staying in one place.

Streets, squares, monuments, restaurants, bars and demonstrations of popular customs of the different Spanish towns, along with a demonstration of artistry and food are principal attractions. All visitors are recommended to get a map at the entrance and follow the marked routes so that they don't get confused and don't miss any of the monuments.
