This area of Barcelona known as
BARCELONETA is the old fishermen's area of the city. Over the years this
area declined in attraction, but a number of very picturesque
restaurants opened there and made zone popular in spite of its
run down appearance. During the recent Olympic games, the city
undertook a major renovation project to reclaim the area. Today Barceloneta is full new buildings and restaurants. Plus, to add
to the beautiful scenery the beaches are located in this area.
The visitor can now enjoy nice clean beaches, wide boardwalks, the smell
of the sea breeze and the aromas of paella and seafood that float out of
