ZONE Descriptions

We have broken Barcelona (arbitrarily) in different zones in an attempt to explain the diversity of the city from area to the next one. If you are staying for example in an hotel in Zone 3 and you wish to know what is nearby, just click on that zone and you will get a list of restaurants, shops, places to see etc. We have also provided you with a brief explanation of each zone. See below

ZONE 1.

ZONE 5.

This area of Barcelona known as BARCELONETA is the old fishermen's area of the city. Over the years this area declined in attraction, but a number of very picturesque restaurants opened there and made zone popular in spite of its run down appearance. During the recent Olympic games, the city undertook a major renovation project to reclaim the area. Today Barceloneta is full new buildings and restaurants. Plus, to add to the beautiful scenery the beaches are located in this area.

ZONE 2.

This zone is the most historical part of the city. It encompasses parts of the gothic area, the cathedral, the Picasso Museum, etc. The seaside part of this zone includes the Olympic port which is used largely by private yachts. This zone also includes the "old market", the zoological park, and the city park.

ZONE 3.

This zone includes the commercial port, cruise ships, etc.. It is a very electric zone and includes parts of the old historic center of Barcelona, the Palau Nacional (Museums) and the start of Montjuic Hill.

ZONE 4.

This zone is where many of Gaudi's buildings can be found: The Basilic; The Sagrada Familia. It is also a zone with many hotels and restaurants.

This area is Barcelona's most prominent residential area. There are a lot of upscale commerce and restaurants. It has become the de facto center of Barcelona.

ZONE 6.

This area is Barcelona's most prominent residential area mentioned above, is very old (Gracia) and quaint. Here we find Parque Guell which was designed by Gaudi.

ZONE 7

Here we find new commerce and shopping malls (L'illa). In this area is where Barcelonans shop.

ZONE 8.

The principal attraction here is TIBIDABO Hill. It contains one of the oldest amusement parks a rather nice attraction for children with many rides. We also find several restaurants and the most significant a spectacular view of Barcelona.
