BARCELONA NOTES SERVICES
This section deals with those services we all need when traveling. In most cases the hotel concierge will point you in the right directions. But just in case we present it here.

HAIR SALONS FOR WOMEN - (Most of them also attend men)

CEBADO - This company has over 20 establishments in Barcelona. Although known as women salons, they also attend to men. Additionally in addition to hair services, they also have a large range of spa services. We could easily recommend all of them (and we do), however we will only list a few here.

BLUE STATION (at commercial center L’ILLA)

NOSTRUM: A city wide chain for food boutiques which offers food to go. Ideal for those visiting Barcelona who prefer to eat at their apt. One can also eat at the charming tables the offer to those patrons who prefer to eat in.

Taxis are plentiful during the day, but they tend to disappear at night. It is smart to have the number of a radio-taxi service, or to contract in advance with a taxi to take you places at night. Radio-taxis are preferred however.

MASSAGES, CHIROPRACTORS, AND ACUPUNCTURE -This is a service attended by specialists. The acupuncturist, for example, is a medical doctor.

GENERAL MEDICINE (General practitioner)

MUNICIPALITY - (Ayuntamiento) In Barcelona the Municipal center has an information line that functions better than the yellow pages. Telephone number 010 (without 93 in front of it). They usually have personnel who speak several languages.

This is a very complete magazine (a la TV guide) with everything that is going on in Barcelona. From special event to movies and everything in between. They do not recommend anything, they just tell you what is going on. Available everywhere.

INTERNET - They are everywhere. They are called Cyber-Cafes. Here we will mention only a few. (CAUTION) Keep an eye on your purse, wallet, camera, etc.

POSTAL SERVICE - Postal service functions well in Spain. There are over 40 post offices in the various zones.

MESSENGER SERVICES - These services offer pick up and delivery of documents, letters, packages, etc. Domestically and internationally. In some of them you can send and receive money (not unlike Western Union). Ask about the rates as they can be expensive. Some of the better known include:

GYMNASIUMS - There are may, but you generally have to join to use the facilities. Your hotel should be able to assist you with this as they have working relationships with the most well known.

ESTANCOS - This is a term you will see when traveling in Spain. These are establishments where they sell tobacco, postcards, tourist maps, postal stamps, etc.

FARMACIAS (Pharmacy) - These pharmacies sell medical products exclusively. They sell all kind of medicines. From prescriptions medicine to over the counter. They are run by well prepared personnel. Usually some one with a degree in Pharmaceutical sciences . They usually very helpful. Outside a pharmacy you will find the name and address and hours of operation of other pharmacies (should this one be closed)
